What are SIP Trunks?

SIP Trunking (Session Initiation Protocol) is a cost-effective, feature-rich service that uses the Internet to connect a company’s PBX to the public switched telephone network.

SIP lines are not so new, but the vast improvements in reliability and superior broadband connections make them a realistic alternative to ISDN.

Once you see the benefits to your business its easy to see why SIP trunking is the fastest growing technology in the telephony market.

  • Save Money:
IP Connectivity costs less than ISDN with lower call costs
  • Flexibility:
SIP trunking enables you to move office and keep your number
  • Resilience:
SIP provides business-grade resilience for disaster recovery
  • Continuity:
Temporary office relocations can be achieved cost-effectively
  • Rationalisation:
Multi-site SIP can reduce the equipment needed across sites

BT call time on ISDN and PSTN services

BT has recently announced that ISDN and PSTN will no longer be an option to purchase from 2020, as they aim to switch off these legacy circuits by 2025.

The solution?  VoIP and SIP trunks.

Businesses will no longer be able to buy any systems that use PSTN or ISDN by 2020. While 2025 may seem a long way off, 2020 is just over two years away. If your current traditional telephony contract is up for renewal within the next few years, now is the time to start exploring the benefits of VoIP and SIP technologies.

If your system doesn’t already support VoIP, you can either replace your entire phone system with an IP one or just invest in an IP-enabled on-site PBX. A hosted telephony system is also a good way to make the switch.
